Attack on Iran could risk Gulf oil supplies

Former CIA analyst Larry C. Johnson said Iran has enough firepower to effectively close the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, through which 40 percent of all the world’s oil moves.

“One of the things that Iran has exercised, has the capability to do, is shut down the Persian Gulf,” Mr. Johnson said. “The best-case scenario is they shut it down for a week. The worst case is they shut it down for three to four months.”

Possible Israeli Attack on Iran Could Steeply Raise Oil Prices

A number of military experts produced a report earlier this month entitled “Ensuring America’s Freedom of Movement: A National Security Imperative to Reduce U.S. Oil Dependence,” which states that a “sustained disruption of oil would be devastating — crippling our very freedom of movement.”

Similarly, the National Defense Magazine asserts, “Under a worst-case scenario 30 day closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the analysis finds that the U.S. would lose nearly $75 billion in GDP.”

Possible Israeli Attack on Iran Could Steeply Raise Oil Prices

China and Russia have also voiced opposition to an attack on Iran, leaving the possibility that Israel may launch military action on its own.

Not everyone is convinced that Israel will have to go it alone. According to Michel Chossundovsky of Global Research, “Washington is in the process of concocting a new string of lies pertaining to Iran’s nuclear program with a view to justifying the implementation of punitive bombings.” He contends that the United States has a history of engaging in such behavior, and points to an alleged fabrication of computer documents years ago which was used to enforce stricter resolutions against Iran.

Then every time an Iranian ship comes out of the strait, confiscate it, and its oil. Tell Iran to transport their oil to China and Russia, via wheelbarrow, and see how that flies!!!! If they cannot export their own oil they cannot make any money and with all the international sanctions against them they will soon see political and fianancial turmoil within their own country. Let Isreal do what they wish regarding Iran and let every other country stay out of it.

US bid to crimp Iranian oil sales to Asia stumbles
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — American attempts to get major Asian importers of Iranian oil to rein in their purchases are faltering as allies South Korea and Japan give U.S. officials a polite brushoff. Emerging giants India and China may even increase their purchases, further complicating Washington's efforts to force Iran to curtail its nuclear program.

The oil speculators, commodity brokers and oil companies Use Everything to jack up prices. geez especially when holidays are coming up. Iran ships to Europe, they're already cutting supplies off to them.

Congress needs to get some regs and rules in place to put a Stop to this. The last time they pulled this President Obama released oil from the reserves...looks like he's going to have to do it again.

Washington B.C./Israeli warmongering send oil prices skyrocketing as Russia, China warn against attacks

Faced with a round of threats and speculations of an impending war so shrill that it has sent oil prices soaring, Russia and China were quick today to caution the United States against launching an attack on Iran.

Attacking Iran would be a “very serious mistake fraught with unpredictable consequences,” warned Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, while China expressed concern that the threats were harming the prospects of diplomacy.

They are just the latest in a growing chorus of nations to express concerns about starting another major war. Germany has also said they oppose such a move.

Iran complains to UN about Israeli "threats"

UNITED NATIONS, April 14 (Reuters) - Iran demanded on Tuesday that the U.N. Security Council respond firmly to what it described as Israel's "unlawful and insolent threats" to launch an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres, have suggested the Jewish state could use military force to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, as the West suspects it is doing.

little thought abouit fact concerning Iran, approximately 90% of Iran is on earthquake fault lines, one of which is comparable to the San Andreas in California.

So having nuclear and remembering Fukushima's little mishap, whatcha think is gonna happen eventually? And when it does, they better Hope that it is not taken as an act of war by their neighbors. If it's Bad enough and too much nuclear radiation is released, well, no one will have to worry about oil prices for awhile.

absolute balderdash. Analysts sitting at the bar last night, after a few, trying to get ready to get richer quicker.

Iran cannot block oil tankers for more than 3 hours, period. Any artillary, aircraft, patrol boats used would be destroyed by american navy pdq. The aircraft carriers alone have enough on hand already. Minesweapers at the ready.

Do not just look at this local sea travel. Also look at the pipe lines, ports, and possible bad things that can and will happen if Iran is attacked by israel, America or both.

I am certain that any type of bomb caused catastrophy in north america would be pinned on the Iranians immediately here. DC is itching for a fight and tell us every day that we are in immense danger, peril and must attack soon.

Iran vows to hit any country that stages attack

Revolutionary Guard senior official says Islamic Republic will target 'any place where enemy offensive operations against Iran originate'

The revloutionary Gaurd started maneuvers in the country's south on Saturday, following naval exercises near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil export route, additional muscle flexing by Iran to ward off the prospect of a military strike against its nuclear facilities. Iran has threatened to close off the strait if Western sanctions limit Iranian oil exports.

threats are threats. not always backed by the muscles it takes for effective action.

Besides, reviewing America's involvements in Iran for the past 70 years on behalf of British Petroleum, does not give us a morally superior position.

The propaganda buildup to a hot war has not diminshed one day nor even one hour. The Persian peoples are not our enemy at all.

Does anyone think that Russia has already OK'd war? Or will they shut up and increase oil production at the higher prices apparently desired by the 1%. Works for me.

    War on Iran

The way in which the growing confrontation with Iran is being sold by the US, Israel and West European leaders is deeply dishonest. The manipulation of the media and public opinion through systematic threat exaggeration is similar to the drum beat of propaganda and disinformation about Iraq’s non-existent weapons of mass destruction that preceded the invasion in 2003.

The problem is that Israel and its right-wing American allies are more interested in regime change than Tehran’s nuclear program. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz succinctly stated the differences between the Israeli government and Washington. It said that “while the Americans are actively seeking a way to start a dialogue, Israel is preaching confrontation and the toppling of the government in Tehran”.

Ok, do not talk with Hilary leading.

Topple the existing government. Whaddya gonna get? Absolutely no moderation there, which they have some of now with cleric and a civilian executive.

Next: military strong man which DC will like. It is their preferred form of gov't. Some one they can easily bribe.

On the other hand, maybe a lurking right wing religious and nationalistic despotic council.

Remember, they lost about 2,000,000 teen age boys fighting the iraqi army during the 1980's. They are not afraid to sacrifice more in defense of their territory.

How would we react if an Irish and Slovak well armed armada landed on jersey shore saying they wanted to meet Snooky, but instead headed for Pittsburg. Our irregulars would have a turkey shoot. So will thiers.

Israel should be brought under International Nuclear controls before it can be seriously expected to bring further control to the spread of Nuclear weapons. West is turning the other cheek on Israeli Nukes and pushing other countries in the region on Nuclear issues. This double standard policy will not work.

A very good argument for why this generation moans for green energy. Fossil fuel, it is not worth war or greed.

as of last evening, on CNN's erin, it is a mini-war. No boots into iran because we have no one available. Looks like missles and strategic bombing only.

Those expecting complete success, like senator graham of south carolina, may be disappointed.

Iranians may be smart enough to move important components and people. I do still hold out for talks. Just cut Hilary loose on them.
